Pol Opuesto, Que Grande Sos! (Argentina)
Grape Variety: Tempranillo, Nebbiolo, Muscat, Criolla Grande, Bonarda
Production: Organic farming / natural wine / low intervention
• Light and juicy red with cherry notes.
• Very well balanced acidity and tannins with a long fresh finish
Trying to get away from Malbec Pol came across this vineyard which is the only one in the Uco Valley to still be planted with these old Criolla varieties. The trunks are as thick as trees and the pergola-trained canopy is high overhead like a forest. Sandy soils and high altitude. They converted to organic 6 years ago.
A tongue-twisting blend of old-fashioned varieties Bonarda, Crilloa Grande, Muscat, Pais and Tempranillo from vineyards in Mendoza. The old vines here are trained high in ‘pergola’, way above head height, allowing forplenty of ventilation beneath the plants.
This is the kind of light, easygoing red wine we love to drink each and everyday
